Many people know overthinking from themselves. It's a constant circling in your head, but you can't find an answer.
You can overthink a lot, for example, how will the event go tomorrow? Have I studied enough for the exam? Does a person really love me?
These are all questions to which there is not really an answer. So you ponder the same scenario all the time, but can't come up with an answer.
I'll give you a little tip if you also overthink a lot, think the scenario through to the last detail. What's the worst that can happen? As soon as you think about it again, just say to yourself, "I've thought through everything down to the last detail and haven't come up with an answer, it's not worth spending any more energy thinking about it".
What I've also noticed is that people with lots of hobbies and little time can think about things much less. People who go to training after work and then go straight to sleep have no time to think about anything. You can argue that it's not healthy not to think about 'life' either. It has its good and bad sides.
Sometimes I just wish I was more nonchalant and didn't care so much. Sometimes I think so hard about something that I get a headache.
I also don't know if there is a guideline for how much you should think. It's quite difficult to think 'properly'. Most people I know think far too much or usually think too little.
What are signs of overthinking?
Thinking about the same thoughts, worries, or fears over and over again
Imagining worst-case scenarios
Spending lots of time thinking negative thoughts about the past or future
Feeling down or depressed because of your thoughts
Continuing to think about a situation when you have already identified reasonable solutions
When you’re overthinking you might feel like your brain won’t shut off. When you try to sleep, you might even feel as though your brain is on overdrive as it replays scenarios in your head and causes you to imagine bad things happening.
Overthinking is not a mental illness, and while overthinking can make you anxious, it is not necessarily the same thing as anxiety. However, it can often play a role in the development and maintenance of several mental health conditions.
How to stop overthinking???
Distract yourself
Challenge negative thoughts
Increasing your self-awareness
Boosting your self-confidence
Practicing self-control
Meditate
